Thursday sees the publication of the Norwegian Infographic, a highlight of our Norwegian Genealogy Arena Talk and some travel inspiration from DearMYRTLE. Why not extend your stay to explore the UK or even make it a multiple country trip to discover your roots.
Liv Birgit Christensen is a professional genealogist specializing in Norwegian family history research and has presented workshops, classes and webinars internationally on Norwegian genealogy.
A Tour of Norwegian Genealogy (Saturday 8 June 2019 at 3:30pm in Arena 4)
In this lecture, Liv will give her listeners an idea of the varied sources that can be used to give the genealogist a richer story about their Norwegian relatives. She will look at vital records, censuses, maps, available books and newspapers, pictures and artefacts, and where to find these sources. Searching for Norwegian records is not that difficult as some sites are in English, including where to find help in using the language and translating texts. Norway has a rich written family and local history. Liv will direct you to where you should look for your Norwegian connections.
DearMYRTLE (aka Myrt) is the nom de plume of Pat Richley-Erickson, author of the award-winning DearMYRTLE Genealogy Blog, consistently among the top 5 family history blogs internationally, where the focus is beginning genealogy topics.
Along with fellow genealogist Valerie Elkins, they form the duo behind Valerie & Myrt’s Excellent Genealogy Adventures, a collaboration that sees the pair documenting their preparations, travel plans and tips before they embark on their journey to the UK. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, both genealogists will be extending their trips and in their own words:
‘Why not take advantage of the overseas flight by adding a little time before and after this event by taking in some ancestral research. We are genealogists after all.’
Valerie’s roots hail from England, Ireland and Scotland. This will be her first trip to visit her ancestral homelands. She can’t wait to explore and experience for herself the lands, the culture and people that she has been studying for decades!
Myrt’s husband’s roots will take the pair to Norway while Myrt is curious to see the sites in London including The National Archives.
Myrt will be speaking on Friday 7 June 2019 at 2.30pm in Arena 1 “Kirsty Gray – The True Life of an Heir Hunter” Interview by Jill Ball, DearMYRTLE and Mags Gaulden.
You may also look forward to some DearMYRTLE AmbushCAM interviews!
