Networking at THE Genealogy Show

by admin in Uncategorised

Networking can take many different forms, ranging from striking up a conversation with someone you overhear speaking about your industry at an event to exchanging business cards with clients. Whether it’s for personal or business reasons, with so many people in the same place at the same time, THE Genealogy Show will be the perfect opportunity to network.

Who should I network with?

One of the most common questions asked regarding networking. In short, the answer is anyone and everyone, you should never miss an opportunity to expand your contacts.

The highlights of networking

Use it to gather information on the industry – THE Genealogy Show will be a hive of information for all things family history and genealogy related.

Free advice: be it career related, education or family history related, there’s bound to be someone you’ll meet who can give the answer you were looking for or point you in the right direction.

Share knowledge: Whether it’s asking for feedback on a new idea or discussing your point of view, it will help you expand your knowledge and allow you to see things from another perspective.

Increase your confidence: Networking can be scary but the world of genealogy is generally a very friendly place.  Push yourself to talk to new people because your business or organisations growth could be dependent on making new connections. Increased confidence will result from stepping outside your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation because who knows where it will lead.

Raise your profile:  Come to THE Genealogy Show to get noticed! The more visible you are, the more people will recognise you and remember you when they need you.  It can help build your reputation as a knowledgeable person with the information, service or support they require.

Learn from the experience of others: It is likely that within a group there will be those who have already been where you are today. This provides you with an ideal opportunity to learn from their ‘wins’ and also to avoid some of the common pitfalls they have experienced.

And lastly, more personal than business, but still a big benefit none-the-less is friendship. Many a genealogist will tell you that some of their longest and closest friendships started with a meeting at a genealogy event.

We hope to see there, armed with a stack of business cards, flyers or at least a notebook to write all your new contacts down in!

    hello, I
am a committee member of a small family history group, responsible for organising talks for our members.
It would be really helpful to have a place in the exhibition with a collection of information on speakers, their talks, locations, costs etc.
I should think it would be a good publicity possibility for those who give talks, too.

If that’s possible, I’d be really grateful!
    thanks in advance,
